Abstract

AC-WC pavement is a commonly used type of road pavement for public transportation. Over time, this pavement often suffers damage due to traffic loads, temperature changes, and water accumulation. This study aims to utilize used inner tubes from motorcycle tires as an additive in hot mix asphalt, considering their elastic, polymer-like properties. The research method involves Marshall parameter testing on hot mix asphalt with varying substitution levels of used inner tubes at 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, and 4%, following the 2018 Bina Marga specifications. The experiments were conducted at the Pavement Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Faculty using penetration grade 60/70 asphalt and continuous gradation. The results indicate an optimum asphalt content (OAC) of 5.77%. The tested Marshall parameters include stability, flow, VIM, VMA, VFA, and MQ. The best performance was obtained with a 3% substitution, yielding a stability value of 1498 kg, VIM of 4.64, VMA of 15.9%, VFA of 72.21%, and an MQ value of 394.84. In conclusion, the use of motorcycle inner tube waste enhances the stability of asphalt concrete compared to mixes without additives, offering an innovative solution to extend pavement life and reduce road damage.
